Road CCTV Camera like: flyovers

After quite a lot of incidents happening in flyovers where bottles rocks and other objects were dropped onto passing cars, there are more and more calls for CCTV cameras and mesh barriers to be settled on all these places by people.

In the most recent incident two 70 kilo sandbags were dropped onto a truck from Miah Lynch Delivery Services from the flyover at Currow on the Tralee Farranfore road.

At Monday's monthly meeting if Kerry County Council Cllr Pat McCarthy put forward a motion calling for the installation of CCTV cameras on all flyovers to help prevent a repeat of the incident.
"These a very, very stupid and silly people whose actions are extremely dangerous. If anyone knows who is responsible they should report it before someone is killed," said Cllr McCarthy.

Council management said that the installation of a CCTV camera system was not possible due to the extent of the areas that could need to be covered.
Cllr McCarthy also proposed that wire mesh fencing could be installed on flyovers to prevent objects being dropped from them.

The Currow incident and others at Ballymacthomas are subject of an ongoing garda enquiry.

We hope such these incidents can be prevented well after the calls responded.
